WYL Partners with PCA
by posted 03/06/2009

WYL is very pleased to announce that we have partnered with Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA). This is a new program for our organization and one that will positively impact our youth players.

PCA is a national organization dedicated to creating a positive, character-building youth sports environment. By partnering with PCA, Weston Youth Lacrosse is committed to the principles of Positive Coaching. PCA calls a Positive Coach a “Double Goal Coach”. A win-at-all-cost coach has only one goal which is to win. A Positive Coach shares that goal but has a second goal that is even more important – to use the sports experience to help our youth learn “life lessons” and positive character traits that will help them be successful throughout their lives. PCA gains support from elite coaches and athletes of many different sports at the professional, world and national level. Most notably is their National Spokesperson, Lakers Head Coach Phil Jackson.

Every Weston Youth Lacrosse Coach will be certified by PCA as a Double-Goal Coach. They are being trained on the three PCA principles: Redefining the Meaning of “Winner”, Filling the Emotional Tank of all players regardless of ability and outcome, and Honoring the Game by teaching players respect for the Rules, Opponents, Officials, Teammates, and Self (aka ROOTS). WYL feels strongly that certification is invaluable for coach development and player enrichment.

We are excited about incorporating PCA into Weston Youth Lacrosse and committed to our partnership with this organization.

Thanks
Dianne Williams
President, WYL
